Day 3: Detroit to Wisconsin

We set off for Wisconsin early in the day and weren’t planning any stops, but we were driving right past Chicago and couldn’t resist a quick detour.  We didn’t spend long there, less than an hour, but we got a little taste of what the city is like.

The way into the city is by one of these many bridges.

Things we learned in 30 minutes in Chicago: This city has a really cheery homeless population, it really is quite windy in the windy city, Chicago accents are highly entertaining.

Wisconsin came with a rain storm and a huge drop in temperature. Yesterday in Detroit, the temps were pushing record highs at a balmy 76 degrees in the late afternoon when we arrived. Today in Wisconsin, the high was in the 30s and it has been overcast all day.
We are staying at The Atlantis Hotel, courtesy of a great groupon deal and as it turns out it’s a really cute place. Wisconsin Dells happens to be “The Waterpark Capital of the World” so naturally our hotel has an indoor water park. We also were given free passes to a nearby hotel, with an even bigger water park than the one at our hotel.

This is a funny city, there are crazy amounts of tourist attractions here, including an upside down white house, tons of mini golfing and go-carting, a roller coaster park, drive-in movie theater, comedy clubs, restaurants galore, cheese shops, flea markets and so much more. They call this “the suck of the Dells”.  It must be a lot of fun in the summer when everything is open and the days are warm.

We wouldn’t mind another day here, there's so much to do, but we are leaving tomorrow morning for Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
